先日、SWGのお友達のG氏が「ゲームサントラ」の話を日記に掲載していたのでコメントしたところ、MSNメッセでゲームサントラの話で盛り上がってしまいました。
ゲームサントラって、私の周囲ではあまり流行らなかった気がします。なぜかというと、
「そんなものを買うなら新しいゲームを買う。」
「やっぱりJ-POPでしょ。ゲームの音楽がすごいなんてダサい」
という考えが蔓延してました。
しかし、改めてそういう話題が出て聴いてみると名曲が多いですね。
しかもゲームになった原曲をそのままCD化するんじゃなくて、プロによるアレンジが入っているのですが、やはりプロなだけであって、同人バンド的な素人っぽさが全くありません。
確かDQシリーズの音楽で有名なすぎやまこういち氏は、
「音楽は2音あれば成り立つ。」
と断言していましたが、まさにその意見に同意で、ファミコン等のPSG音源（3音＋SE）でちゃんと成り立ってます。でも、3音で作ったからといって、作曲者は3音として作った曲ではないんじゃないかと勝手に想像しています。
つまりは、数百キロバイトという超低容量の時代に、BGMとして使える容量が数十キロバイトしかないのにゲーム音楽クリエイター達はその容量で曲を表現してたわけですから、一種のメガデモ（メガデモとは？@IT）
みたいな世界だと考えを改めさせてもらいました。
ゲームでは、容量の制約上こういう曲になったけど、私達はこんな曲を思い描いて作ったんだよ！というのがゲームサントラじゃないかなー。
そういえば話は変わりますけど、すぎやまこういち氏といえば、未だに1989年頃のProteus/2を使っているという話をどこかのサイトで読んだ事があります。リアルな音色、リアルな演奏を追求する前に曲のインスピレーションを沸かせるのには一番使いこなせる機材を使うべきだという考えを本人は持ってるかわかりませんが、少なくとも私にはそう思えました。
